Participation of the B&B Team in the XXVIII Transfrontier Meeting on Sensors and Biosensors. Highlighting achievements with award-winning presentation

The XXVIII Transfrontier Meeting on Sensors and Biosensors (TMSB 2024) took place on September 26-27, 2024, at the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) in La Ràpita, Spain. The conference brought together researchers and professionals from the Euroregion, focusing on recent advancements in sensor and biosensor technologies. Hosted by IRTA and organized by the Biosensors group, the meeting provided a platform for young scientists and experts to present their work through oral and poster sessions, fostering collaboration and innovation in the field. Our team made significant contributions, presenting their work on biosensing technologies. The team’s participation included:

  • Anaixis del Valle. She received the award for the best oral presentation for her research on developing portable PCR and electrochemical genosensing for the rapid detection of neonatal Streptococcus agalactiae infections. This work emphasized the potential for quick and efficient point-of-care screening for neonatal infections in the framework of AmpliSens Project.
  • Juan Carlos Porras. Presented a portable medical device based on a magneto-immunosensor for diagnosing celiac disease. This novel device aims to enhance rapid diagnostics in primary care by being affordable, quick, sensitive, and easy to use. Developed within the framework of his industrial doctorate with BioEclosion.
  • Jennifer Marfà. Discussed the integration of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) into paper-based nucleic acid lateral flow platforms for improved multiplexed point-of-need diagnostics. The study explored the benefits of using MIPs over traditional antibodies, offering a robust and cost-effective solution for diagnostic platforms in the framework of Sens4IVD.
  • Melania Mesas (UAB). Contributed to the development of a traffic light-based point-of-care test for the rapid stratification of fever syndromes, which enhances the capability for quick diagnosis in clinical settings in the framework of Echilibrist Project.
  • Rossana Rossi (UAB). Presented research on an in-vitro diagnostic test based on exosomes for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and risk stratification of patients, contributing to advances in diagnostics for neurodegenerative diseases in the framework of ExoSensPoc.

Our team, with its outstanding presentations, made a notable impact on the conference, and congratulations are in order for Anaixis del Valle for her well-deserved award for the best oral presentation.
